Froglets

Hi everyone! As promised, here are the little froglets! This time, I didn't try to drink the water. ;) They are definitely growing....some have both front and back legs now, some still just have back legs, and others are still legless. :) They are ALL very cute though. The ones that have all their legs now are also changing color!!

This last picture is not the best but Mom wanted you to see it as it shows 3 of the frog babies at 3 different stages. :)

Hope you all had a great weekend! Mom and I will be around to visit soon but we were out of town and now she has to get ready for the Kindergarten end of the year celebration. She needs to put together a slideshow for it and she wants to finish it this morning. What a busy time of year!

Meet The Caterpillars!

Last week, Mom got some caterpillars in her classroom and I got to meet them just the other night! Mom tells me they will soon turn into Painted Lady butterflies. I didn't care too much for them but I did think their food smelled really good. They have this processed food made from the mallow plant plus real mallow plant in there home with them. The processed food smelled like graham crackers...YUM! Mom didn't let me eat any though. She said the caterpillars were growing and needed all they could get. Apparently, if they don't have enough food and they are together then once one goes into a chrysalis the others will eat it! YIKES! I don't want that to happen.

Look how small they were!

And now....my, how they have grown!! One is already in the j-shape too which means that VERY soon it will form a chrysalis and stay inside for about a week until it emerges as a butterfly. Mom's students are SUPER excited about this. :) They observed and drew the caterpillar in a j-shape in their journals today and they even got to eat leaves (lettuce) like a caterpillar for snack...of course, they had a bit of Ranch dressing on theirs. :)

See all the body parts...the Kindergarteners know all of these...impressive, huh! They are one smart bunch!

They even painted some caterpillars with all their correct parts. (For the most part anyway;)

I can't wait to share with you what will happen in about a week! Also, soon I will share some pictures of the tadpoles....a couple of them have hind AND front legs now!! :)

Mother's Day Hike (I know it's late) & Fun With the Girls

On Mother's Day, my furiend Sierra and I along with our Moms went for a hike through this meadow that was just bursting with wildflowers! It was grrrreat! Ok, who am I kidding....the best part was that it was bursting with bones and other tasty treats that the elk left behind. BOL!

I am stalking the bones while Sierra is the lookout in case any humans try to shoo us away before we can get our prize. :)

Success!

But wait, what does Sierra see?

Real, live elk!!!

And there were lots more where that one came from. :)

The hills are alive with the sound of music! ;)

Last night, Gracie's humans came over but she stayed at home. We had a great time. The girls did a little grass kayaking while I ran "hot laps" around them. It was soooo much fun!

Apple or Cheese....Which Would You Choose?

**Note from Nala's Mom**
We were just having a snack and of course Nala wanted some so I gave her a piece of apple and she gobbled it up. Then I gave her a piece of cheese and an apple and she only ate the cheese. We continued to try and get her to eat the apple before we gave her another piece of cheese but she was holding out for the "good stuff" now that she knew we had it. :) Every time we gave her the apple she moved it around in her mouth a bit then spit it out and looked at us with those big brown eyes asking for a piece of cheese instead. So, I put a piece of cheese and an apple down for her to choose from and of course that was a no brainer....she went straight for the cheese and left the apple. Not being satisfied she checked our plates to see if there was any cheese left and when she realized they were empty she sniffed the apple, walked away, and then finally came back and ate it. What a spoiled girl but it provided us with a good laugh. :)

Happy Trails

This past week was great! I got to go on 3 hikes with my pal Sierra! First, we explored a canyon where we found all of those big elk bones you saw, then we hiked Manastash Ridge (it's the same one I hiked with Mom a couple of weeks ago), and yesterday we explored this huge meadow full of flowers and we even saw a herd of live elk. I will show you the pictures from yesterday a bit later. For now, it is just the first two hikes. :)

To see the pictures from our hike where we found all the bones click on the picture above of Sierra's cute white-tipped tail. :)

Give a Dog a Bone

"Come on Colleen, Sierra and I found those fair and square!!!"

"Fine, I will sit and beg if I must but I really think this is ridiculous....I mean, you never would have found these treasures without us so why do you get to take them?"

"STOP! Where are you going with those tasty bones?? Please, please, please just let me have one!"

"Fine, I will memorize where you put them and come back later. What? In a tree, how can I get them in there??"

"Wait, what's going on over there Sierra? Aha! Sierra, you are brilliant! While the human is busy tending to the "decoy" bones you are feasting! I can learn so much from you!"

"Finally, a bone of my own to chew! Thanks for teaching me the trick to it Sierra! I owe ya one!"
