Happy St. Patrick's Day

Happy St. Patrick's Day everyone!  Ours will be much happier if Mom gets over her sickness...she has been sniffling and sneezing for the past couple of days.  Don't worry, I have been a most excellent nurse for her as you can see in the picture above.  Whenever she needs a nap, I am right there to curl up with her and keep her warm and snug. ;)

Today, she decided that an early St. Patrick's Day dinner might make her feel better.  So, she found this Irish Soda Bread Scone recipe from the Smitten Kitchen blog.  If you haven't visited the Smitten Kitchen blog then you should definitely go check it out.  It's one of Mom's favorite places...she says there are some tasty recipes over there!  To go with the scones she made some potato leek soup...recipe courtesy of Alton Brown over at the Food Network. :)

Of course, I wouldn't know since Mom said NONE of the dishes were dog approved!  She said the raisins and the leeks meant these treats were off limits to me. :(   How rude...you mean, I have to just settle for a sniff??

However, when I thought Mom wasn't looking I did attempt a lick but missed.

That didn't stop me though.  I decided to linger a while and wait for Mom to turn her back for a second but that didn't happen either.  :(

So, I moved into my usual position at the entrance to the kitchen and carefully watched to see if any stray crumbs found their way to the floor.  Unfortunately, I was out of luck today...no crumbs came my way.  So, although the warm soup and bread made Mom feel a wee bit better make sure that if your humans cook up any yummy St. Patrick's Day food that it is doggie approved!  You'll be much happier than I was this evening. ;) What was my Mom thinking?

Amber, hope you feel better! I LOVE smitten kitchen! I just used her recipe to make bailey's frosting for my guinness cupcakes! Food blogs are my weakness, besides dog blogs! :)

Nala, too bad your mom cares about your health too much to give you raisin scones and potato leek soup! Maybe next time she'll make something special for you!

Thank you both for Darwin's get well presents! She's played with her new bottle buddy all night!

Woo, Nala! I don't think it was the soup, I think it's you snuggling on the couch that's making your mom feel better! Ha woo.
Our mom makes lots of food for her and dad that's on the "Forbidden Foods" list for us puppers. That's so bad! Why must bipeds do these things to us!!??
I think your mom should have made at least one of those scones should have been made raisin-free!!
Luv,
Dave

Hi Nala - aw, you're such a good nurse! Get well soon mom - please give her a big snuggle from each of us Nala, we know canine cuddles are the best medicine ever!

We feel very sad that you didn't even get a crumb of all that yummy looking food - we wanted to reach right into the screen to have a nibble too!

Hi Nala, those scones look yummy. How unfair that humans make food that we can't eat :-(

Hope your mom is feeling better soon - then she can make you a doggie-friendly scone all of your own ;-)

Hey Nala - Happy St. Patrick's Day. In my house, we say that licking doesn't count cause it's like sniffing with your tongue... so your Mom should AT LEAST let you have a few licks of delicious scone, right?!

You like to cook too! You should start a recipe blog. With your pictures and talent in the kitchen it would be a hit. Sorry about your cold. It is really sticking around this year. Looks yummy!

aw, cuddling w/ your dog is most certainly the best way to get over feeling crummy!

BRUTUS said...

Hope your momma is felling A-OK by now! Good thing you missed that tray of scones with your tongue - we were worried you might have burned it (although we know your momma would never let that happen!). Did you ever find any little crumbs to sample after being such a good nurse??
